From DNA to mRNA to Life

From DNA to mRNA to proteins (Credit: Wikipedia)

Human DNA is carefully stored within the cell nucleus, containing the blueprint of life. Yet that information cannot build or repair anything while locked away—it must be shared.

To accomplish this, a small segment of DNA is copied into a messenger RNA (mRNA) molecule. This messenger leaves the nucleus and carries the instructions into the cytoplasm, where ribosomes read the message and build the proteins that sustain life.

The cell’s health depends on this faithful transfer of information. But this biological process also reveals a deeper spiritual reality.

The Prophets – God’s Messenger “RNA”

Throughout the Bible, God chose prophets to act as His messengers. They received truth from the divine “nucleus”—the very heart and wisdom of God—and delivered that message to the people.

Like mRNA, the prophet’s message did not originate in himself; he simply transmitted what was given. The goal was not the message alone, but the transformation it could produce when obeyed.

The Word must not stay confined to the written page; it must be brought to life—translated into faithful living, loving action, and restored character.

“Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.”
Matthew 4:4

Viruses, False Prophets, and Fake News

Not all messages that enter a cell are good. Viruses invade and trick the cell into producing harmful proteins by inserting false instructions. The result is disease and death instead of growth and health.

Spiritually, this mirrors the work of false prophets and deceptive messages. They claim authority, but their words do not originate from God. Instead of healing the soul, they corrupt it with confusion and self-deception.

Jesus warned, “Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing but inwardly are ravenous wolves” (Matthew 7:15).

Jesus told “Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves” (Matt 7:15)

When the Messenger Is Attacked

Viruses employ two devastating strategies against host mRNA—both revealing Satan’s playbook against God’s prophets:

1. Deactivation (Message Silenced, Not Destroyed)
Some viruses, like poliovirus, bind to mRNA but block ribosome translation. The message remains physically intact but produces nothing.

Spiritually, this is when prophets are accepted as messengers but their authority questioned:
“We respect the prophet, but was it REALLY God’s voice?”
“That’s just human opinion…”

The Word exists, but doubt blocks its power—like mRNA jammed in the ribosome tunnel. No obedience, no life change.

2. Destruction (Message Physically Eliminated)
SARS-CoV-2 Nsp1 goes further—it cleaves host mRNA, recruiting cellular enzymes to chop it into fragments.

When questioning fails and obedience threatens Satan’s kingdom, he escalates to persecution: mocking, exile, martyrdom. The messenger is not just silenced—he’s destroyed.

The Lesson: Protection requires both vindication of authority AND faithful action. Questioning the source blocks translation; rejecting the messenger destroys the message entirely.

Protecting the Message of Life

There is hope in this analogy. Some of the cell’s mRNA molecules resist destruction if they quickly bind to ribosomes and begin producing the needed proteins. Likewise, God’s message, when embraced and acted upon promptly, becomes powerful and enduring—producing faith, strength, and discernment before deception can decay it.

Jesus described this in the Parable of the Sower: truth sown in good soil—an obedient heart—survives spiritual attacks and multiplies thirty, sixty, or a hundredfold (Mark 4:20).

So the lesson is clear: truth must be lived, not just known. The message of life must be guarded in the “cytoplasm” of daily choices, faithfully translated into action before the enemy can silence it.

Reflect

In both biology and faith, life depends on the integrity of the message.
Just as the cell protects and translates its mRNA to sustain health, we must protect and live out God’s messages to sustain spiritual life.

“So shall My word be that goes forth from My mouth;
It shall not return to Me void,
But it shall accomplish what I please,
And it shall prosper in the thing for which I sent it.”
Isaiah 55:11

Reflection Question:
What message from God has He already placed in your heart—and how can you protect it from being silenced or distorted as you live it out this week?
